You have a million thoughts and questions…

How could this happen?

I thought I had more time before I became a grandparent.

You feel it deep in your mind and in your heart.

What if your daughter could make it through this unscathed?

What if you and her could still remain connected?

What if you both had someone on your team, guiding you through this process?

My name is Kendrah Yardley. I am a birth doula serving teen moms in Savannah, GA and surrounding areas. I became a doula because I believe every birth matters. I believe every woman deserves a birth that feels empowering and positive, especially those marginalized by society. So often when we think of a beautiful birth, we picture the adult, married, financially stable woman. I picture your daughter. I see her face and I know that no matter what the world says about her situation, she is worthy of every good thing birth can offer. I want her to know she is supported and loved. I want you to know you don’t have to do this alone. I want you both to know this is not the end of the world. The birth of a child only happens once; let’s make it an experience to remember. Life is hard, but her birth doesn’t have to be. I believe she deserves to give birth in a safe environment, in a way she thinks is best, and that begins with trusting her birth team. Let’s connect and together we can guide her to motherhood.

How do I justify the cost?: Finances are tough. You want what’s best for your daughter, but it’s so hard to juggle what you can and can’t afford. Studies show that doulas provide a number of health benefits to women in labor including decreased risk of c-section, shorter labors, and decrease in the use of pain medication. Doulas have also been shown to increase oxytocin production in laboring moms by providing soothing touch, eye contact, and emotional reassurance. I also offer discounts, payment plans, and bartering of services. I am confident we can find a plan that allows you to get everything you want out of my services without breaking the bank.

What if my partner isn’t sure about this?:  I understand that it can be scary trusting a stranger to come into your home during such a vulnerable stage of life. I would be more than happy to meet with your partner and answer any questions they might have. I want everyone involved to know that my goal is to help your child have the best possible experience, unite and keep harmony within your family, and create an environment that is as stress-free as possible. If there’s one thing I can promise a nervous partner/parent, it is this: I promise to love and care for your family as if they were my own. I may be a stranger now, but I know we can connect and band together as we accomplish our shared goals!

Will you take over my role as parent?:  This is a very common and valid concern. You love your daughter and you want to make sure you’re there for her! Have you ever gone through something really difficult and although you love your family, you felt like talking to an outside source that has a new perspective and understands you differently? That’s where I come in! Never in my wildest dreams would I want to take over your role. You are irreplaceable to your daughter. You know her in ways that I don’t, and I know birth in ways that you don’t. While my job is to emotionally support her and provide comfort, I am also able to teach you effective ways to assist her in labor so you are as fully involved as you would like to be! I am here and ready to assist and guide so neither one of you have to do this alone.
